<h2>Mike has devoted his life to serving Auburn and our region.</h2><h3>Mike Scott has spent a distinguished 30-year career as a firefighter, dedicating his life to protecting his community and mentoring the next generation of first responders.</h3><h4>I grew up in Sabattus, Maine, where I learned the value of hard work and looking out for your neighbors. At just 14, I followed in my father’s footsteps and joined the Sabattus Fire Department—starting a lifetime of service to others. About 30 years ago, I moved to Auburn, Maine, and it’s been home ever since. It’s where I raised my family, built my career, and committed my life to serving this community.</h4><h4>My wife and I have been married for 30 years, and we raised two daughters who went through Auburn schools and are now out on their own building lives of their own. Like any parent, I want to make sure the opportunities that were here for our family are still here for the next generation.</h4><h4>In 1996, I joined the Auburn Fire Department and spent the next three decades working my way through the ranks—from the front lines to Battalion Chief. Along the way, I learned what it means to lead under pressure, make tough decisions, and always put people first. For me, the job was never just about fighting fires—it was about protecting our neighbors and keeping our community safe.</h4><h4>I also spent years as a union leader, including serving as President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Maine, standing up for firefighter safety, fair wages, and the well-being of working people across our state. I’ve always believed that when workers are respected and supported, our communities are stronger.</h4><h4>I retired this year after 30 years of service, but I’m not done serving. I’m running for the Maine State Senate because I believe it’s time for leaders who understand what working people go through every day—and who will stand up for them in Augusta.</h4>

As a first responder, I know what it takes when the call comes in and someone’s life is on the line. In Senate District 20, our communities are growing, our roadways are busier, our infrastructure is aging, and our first responders are being stretched too thin. Public safety means making sure our neighborhoods are secure, our families are protected, and our firefighters, EMTs, and police have the support they need to do their jobs.That means roads and bridges that allow ambulances and fire trucks to respond quickly. It means making sure our firehouses, EMS crews, and police departments have the training, staffing, and equipment they need. It means building trust between communities and the people who are sworn to protect them. And it means investing in mental health and addiction services, so our emergency rooms and first responders aren’t the only safety net.I’ve lived public safety my entire career, and in Augusta I’ll fight to make sure Senate District 20 have the resources they need to protect families, support first responders, and keep our communities strong.

Residents count on strong fire, police, and emergency services. Mike will fight for funding, equipment, and mental-health support for first responders, and for policies that keep our community safe while respecting the people who serve our communities.

Safe Communities

As a person whose worked most of his life, I know what it’s like to watch the cost of everyday life keep climbing while paychecks struggle to keep up. In Senate District 20, families are feeling the squeeze—from higher grocery bills and housing costs, to rising healthcare and energy prices. Affordability isn’t a talking point; it’s about whether working families can actually get ahead.It means making sure people who work hard can afford a place to live, put food on the table, and take care of their families. It means lowering the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs, so no one has to choose between paying the bills and getting the care they need. It means tackling rising housing costs and investing in infrastructure and energy policies that bring down everyday expenses.And it means standing up for workers—protecting good-paying jobs, defending the right to collectively bargain, and making sure the economy works for the people who keep our communities running.In Augusta, I’ll fight to lower costs, strengthen the middle class, and make sure families in the Senate District 20 can afford not just to get by, but to build a better future.

As the husband of a teacher and a father of two daughters, I know how important it is that every child has access to a strong education and a real opportunity to succeed. In Senate District 20, our communities are growing and changing, and our schools need the resources to keep up. Education is about making sure every student—no matter their background—has the support, teachers, and opportunities they need to build a good life.That means investing in our public schools, so classrooms aren’t overcrowded and teachers have the tools they need to help students succeed. It means supporting career and technical education so students who want to work with their hands can step into good-paying jobs right out of school. It means making college and job training more affordable, so families aren’t buried in debt just to give their kids a chance at the American Dream.Strong schools make strong communities.
